The bookkeeper behind Level
{{TODO: headshot}}
Hi, I’m glad you’re here
My background
I have 6+ years of bookkeeping experience. I started in accounts payable and receivable for a large trailer dealer in southern Alberta, then did the same work at a busy collision repair shop, where I worked alongside the shop’s outside accountants.
Before starting Level Bookkeeping, I spent about a year at a local bookkeeping firm keeping full-cycle books for 15 small businesses.
Along the way I’ve worked with property managers, plumbers, mechanics and auto repair shops, holding companies, hair salons, estheticians, truckers and sole proprietors. You can read how I approach each of them, and the rules that matter for each, on my industry pages.
How I work
- Honest
- If I don’t know something, I’ll say “I don’t know, let’s figure it out” instead of bluffing. You’ll always know where your books stand, including the parts that aren’t pretty.
- Efficient
- Your time matters. I ask for what I need once, use apps that save you from paper, and keep the routine simple enough that it doesn’t take over your evenings.
- Reliable
- Reconciliations done every month, filings on time, and straight answers when you ask a question. Bookkeeping only works if it’s steady, month after month.
The part I enjoy most
Reconciliation and cleaning up messy books. There’s real satisfaction in taking a year of statements, a confused QuickBooks file and a box of receipts, and turning them into books that balance. It’s also what the name stands for: level books, with nothing hiding.
What working with me looks like
It starts when you get in touch: you tell me where things are, and I ask a few plain questions about your business and your software. After a free review of your books, you get a clear quote before any work begins.
After that, most of the work happens online. Your books live in QuickBooks Online, receipts come in through an app, and you get a short plain-English summary each month. I’m based in Lethbridge, I can meet in person around the city when it helps, and I work remotely with businesses across southern Alberta and the rest of Canada.
What’s next
Right now I focus on bookkeeping, payroll and GST filing. In a year or two, I plan to add personal (T1) tax returns. Until then, I hand your books to whoever prepares your return, in good shape, and I’m happy to work alongside the tax preparer you already have.
Let’s talk about your books.
Tell me where things stand, even if it’s messy, and I’ll tell you honestly what it’ll take to catch up and keep it that way. Every quote is confirmed after a free review of your books.
Leave a message and Vanessa will call you back.
